Blackcurrant Bud Absolute France

Blackcurrant Bud Absolute is one of the few natural fruity notes in perfumery. It develops a well-balanced duality between distinctly sulphurous, green notes and a fruity dimension. It is also minty and rosy, like the geraniol found in the rose.
Blackcurrant Bud Absolute is often used in red fruit reconstitutions. It works well with rose to bring freshness to the top and fruitiness and greenness to the heart. Its sweet, sulphurous notes soften certain spices and facilitate their use in floral reconstitutions such as violet or green gardenia.
Native to northern Europe, blackcurrant plants do not tolerate heat very well and prefer moderate and cold temperatures. It is in Burgundy that we find most of the blackcurrant plants grown for their buds. 80-90% of the production of blackcurrants for perfumery comes from Burgundy, but they are also found in Poland, Moldavia and Australia.
Harvesting begins at the end of November, with the first colds of the year, and continues throughout the winter until February. The plant must be dry to be picked, so it is harvested in the afternoon to avoid the morning dew. The plants are then cut and the buds separated from the branches.
The collected buds are transformed into absolute in a two-step process at our factory: first, the buds are extracted with a volatile solvent to obtain a concrete; then the concrete is washed with ethanol to obtain the absolute.
It was not until the beginning of the 20th century that blackcurrant cultivation boomed, thanks to the high vitamin C content of the fruit and the high market demand for vitamin-rich products.
