Givaudan becomes full member of UEBT: Sourcing with respect

Membership further strengthens responsible sourcing commitments

Givaudan has become a full member of UEBT: Sourcing with respect, an international non-profit that promotes sourcing with respect for people and biodiversity. UEBT was founded with support of UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD) in 2008 to engage business in responsible sourcing of botanicals.

This milestone further strengthens Givaudan’s 2030 commitment to source all materials and services in a way that protects both people and the environment. It also closely aligns with the Company’s 2030 ambition to help protect and regenerate biodiversity – including commitments to source its critical agricultural commodities without contributing to deforestation or the conversion of natural ecosystems, and to source its key raw materials from supply chains engaged in Regenerative Agriculture.

“As a global business sourcing thousands of raw materials from communities worldwide, we are resolute in our commitment to the highest standards of responsible sourcing. Collaboration is not just important – it is non-negotiable. Membership of UEBT strengthens our actions to protect people and the environment by enabling us to tap into shared expertise, insights and best practices, fuel collective inspiration, and, most importantly, drive impact on our shared journey.”

Willem Mutsaerts, Head of Global Procurement and Sustainability at Givaudan

“This marks an important milestone for both UEBT and Givaudan. As an international non-profit, UEBT has collaborated with Givaudan for several years on strategic botanical supply chains. Givaudan’s formal membership in UEBT’s dynamic platform now strengthens and gives structure to these ongoing, on-the-ground initiatives. It also creates new opportunities for collective action with other members and further supports Givaudan’s efforts to build resilient botanical supply chains rooted in respect for people and biodiversity.”

Rik Kutsch Lojenga, Executive Director at UEBT

To become a member of UEBT, companies must meet a series of commitments. These include setting targets and taking concrete measures to improve sourcing systems and practices in line with the UEBT standard, a global set of principles for the ethical sourcing of natural ingredients, ensuring that companies respect both people and nature. Members must also meet minimum requirements, such as ensuring no deforestation or conversion of intact ecosystems at a company-wide level.

The Company continues to deliver concrete progress in pursuit of its responsible sourcing ambitions. By the end of 2024, 53% of its total procurement spend (covering naturals, synthetics and indirect materials and services) was responsibly sourced, rising to 85% in its naturals portfolio.
