Givaudan recognised with SB COP Award at COP30 conference

Awarded in the Bioeconomy category for PrimalHyal™ 50 Life

Givaudan’s commitment to sustainable innovation has been officially recognised during the COP30 Climate Conference through the inaugural SB COP (Sustainable Business COP) Awards. The Company was one of six to be recognised in the Bioeconomy category for its PrimalHyal™ 50 Life innovation in a ceremony in Belém, Brazil on 12 November. Forty-eight overall winners were selected out of more than 670 submissions from companies and organisations worldwide across eight categories including energy transition, circular economy and materials, bioeconomy, food systems and nature-based solutions. Other winners recognised at the event include Natura, Bayer, BASF, PepsiCo and Nestlé.

SB COP is a new global coalition launched by CNI (the National Confederation of Industry in Brazil) to coordinate private-sector sustainability efforts and support UN climate negotiations, in addition to demonstrating the potential for business-led climate solutions. It is a permanent initiative that brings together nearly 40 million companies from more than 60 countries.

“Driving real business impact on climate requires innovation and inspiration across industries, sectors, and geographies. We’re proud that the SB COP Awards have recognised PrimalHyal™ 50 Life in the Bioeconomy category – a breakthrough that reimagines an active cosmetic ingredient essential with exceptional performance and significant sustainability impacts. This achievement reflects the incredible passion, creativity, and collaboration of our teams – from Active Beauty to Sustainability – as well as our commitment to sustainable growth with customers.”

Maurizio Volpi, President Fragrance & Beauty at Givaudan

PrimalHyal™ 50 Life is made through Givaudan’s Pomacle site in France; part of a unique biorefinery setting, with its team based in Orsay, France. It uses a process of synthetic biology, precision fermentation, circular resource recovery and advanced water management. The product was selected by the SB COP team for its innovative approach to cutting the carbon footprint of hyaluronic acid; an active cosmetic ingredient which is present in 40% of skincare globally. It delivers significant environmental impacts, including cutting CO2 by 92%, non‑renewable energy use by 90%, water use by 75% as well as water acidification and eutrophication by 95%.

Givaudan continues to deliver impact on its climate journey. In early 2025 the Company announced a new ambition to achieve net-zero GHG emissions across its value chain by 2045. As of the end of 2024 Givaudan had cut its scope 1+2 emissions by 48% compared with a 2015 baseline and achieved 100% purchased renewable electricity. In July 2025 the Company was awarded its sixth consecutive CDP A for climate action.

In October, Givaudan announced the opening of its new White Biotechnology Innovation Centre (BIC) in Toulouse, France. This state-of-the-art site strengthens Givaudan capabilities, advancing research and development, and accelerating the creation of high-precision beauty ingredients. Positioned within Givaudan’s biotechnology R&D and innovation ecosystem, the site will work in synergy with the other centres in Orsay and in Pomacle, France.
