Givaudan Active Beauty launches New Red 1805, a vegan red pigment for a natural and colourful make-up
An easy way to switch from synthetic to a sustainable alternative
Givaudan Active Beauty presents New Red 1805¹, a vegan high performance red pigment for use in make-up formulations. This powder offers a sustainable alternative to synthetic red pigments, while creating new possibilities to answer the growing trend for healthier and cleaner beauty.
New Red 1805 has been crafted for natural makeup designers and especially for lipsticks creators looking for high content of natural-origin ingredients without compromising performance on shade, intensity and stability.
Lip colour is currently the most active colour cosmetics category, accounting for one third² of new launches with 28³ lipsticks sold in the world every single second. As soon as the pigment has a bold and rich colour, a simple beauty gesture such as applying a lipstick will instantly bring a better aesthetic and self-confidence to anyone.
Yohan Rolland, Global Category Manager said: “Most of the existing colour formulae rely on synthetic pigments. Proudly crafted by Green fractionation, New Red 1805 enables brands to bring a premium vegan, cruelty-free and performant innovation in the most iconic category of colours cosmetics: the red lipstick. With a 100% natural origin, it doesn’t interfere with performance.”
Crafted from the Chinese red radish ‘Raphanus Sativus L.’, whose roots are naturally rich in coloured metabolites named anthocyanins, New Red 1805 is fully traceable, secured by working with a cooperative of farmers in the Yunnan province, ensuring the quality and sustainability of this raw material. Designed to offer good performance, it delivers a better chroma C* and a better coverage (Contrast Ratio) in comparison to synthetic benchmark red pigment in products designed for lips. More than just a pigment, New Red 1805 features antioxidant properties, protecting the fragile lip skin from free radicals.
Easy to formulate, it can be used alone in the formula or in association with other pigments to offer a deep glamorous colour. Its intense natural red is wear-proof stable and offers the perfect shade on all ethnicities.
To inspire the beauty industry, we designed S3D® Désir, a luxurious red lips beautifier. Its high covering and flamboyant satin texture will let your lips radiate at any time of day.
Due to regulatory requirements, the equivalent of New Red 1805 will be Oxy’less 1805 for the United States. Contact your US sales representative for more information.
