We’re delighted to share another proud step forward on our sustainability journey with the news that our patchouli supply chain in Sulawesi, Indonesia, is now verified as ethically sourced by UEBT – Sourcing with Respect for part of our patchouli oil volumes. 

UEBT – Sourcing with Respect is an international non-profit that promotes sourcing with respect for people and biodiversity. The organisation was founded with support of UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD) back in 2008 to engage business in responsible sourcing of botanicals. Givaudan became a full member of UEBT – Sourcing with Respect in late 2025.

This verification celebrates the ongoing momentum behind our Sourcing4Good programme and the many colleagues and partners contributing to it every day. As an ingredient at the advanced level of the programme, our projects in this supply chain demonstrate what responsible sourcing looks like in practice: bringing together respect for people, biodiversity, and long-term community partnerships. 

Across 317 hectares of patchouli fields cared for by 506 farmers in 12 Patchouli Champion Groups (PCGs); eight in West Sulawesi and four in Southeast Sulawesi; our teams work together to enhance sustainable agricultural practices and create fair, transparent supply chains. The patchouli oil is processed safely through facilities in Medan and regional warehouses in Sulawesi and Makassar, ensuring traceability from field to fragrance. 

This achievement reflects how our purpose comes to life and directly supports our ambition to source all materials and services in a way that protects people and the environment by 2030 as well as our 2030 biodiversity ambition and targets.
