Partnership Givaudan and Arla: working together for climate, nature and scope 3
Our partnership with Arla Foods, established in June 2026, marks a meaningful milestone on our journey toward net‑zero emissions by 2045. Together, we are accelerating progress on scope 3 emission reductions and supporting progress on nature in line with our 2030 biodiversity target to source key raw materials from supply chains engaged in regenerative agriculture. By sourcing dairy ingredients more responsibly and enhancing transparency across our supply chain, we are better meeting our customers’ needs.
Behind the partnership: introducing Arla Foods (Ingredients)
Arla Foods Ingredients (AFI) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Arla Foods, one of the world's largest farmer-owned dairy cooperatives, owned by approximately 11,200 dairy farmers across seven European countries and sourcing 19.4 billion kg of milk annually. Currently, around 7,200 European farms are participating in the Arla Foods' FarmAhead™ programme.
Through Arla Foods' FarmAhead™ Customer Partnership, we are able to collaborate with our supplier to accelerate climate action by supporting farmers to take action to reduce their climate impact on farm and delivering measurable progress across the dairy value chain. Their cooperative structure is central to advancing dairy production, empowering farmers to be both the focus and the force behind on‑farm change.
What the partnership involves: FarmAhead™ Programme and Incentive
Through this agreement with Arla, we are joining their FarmAhead™ Customer Partnership Programme and investing in on‑farm actions to reduce emissions across both our value chains. The FarmAhead™ programme supports Arla farmer owners in driving continuous improvements across climate, nature and biodiversity. One key element of the programme is the FarmAhead™ Incentive, which rewards farmers for taking concrete, measurable actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions on farm such as restoring soil health, reducing carbon impact, fresh water use and enhancing biodiversity. In addition, the FarmAhead™ Incentive recognizes and rewards actions related to feed management. Where soy is part of the dairy feed ration, farmers are incentivized to reduce soy use or source certified deforestation- and conversion-free (DCF) soy.
Advancing our scope 3
On‑farm emissions represent around a quarter of our scope 3 greenhouse gas footprint, making partnerships like the one with Arla essential to reaching net‑zero by 2045. By sourcing whey permeate (a carbohydrate-rich by product of the cheese-making industry) from Arla Foods Ingredients, we are enabling initiatives that accelerate emissions reductions across our dairy value chain and drive measurable progress toward our Forest, Land and Agriculture (FLAG) targets, cutting emissions by 30.3% by 2030 and 72% by 2045.
