Innovation has always been at the heart of Givaudan’s strategy. We are constantly looking for ways to leverage technological developments to enhance the way we work, and to delight our customers and consumers.
‘Carto’ enables perfumers to perform at the peak of their creativity, delivering on an idea almost as soon as they dream it. This intuitive and interactive system functions a bit like a game, making centuries’ worth of research available in a flash. Firstly, the perfumer uses a wide touchscreen to select which raw materials they wish to mix. A special robot then produces an instant sample, using real ingredients and the best possible formula, at a speed that would be impossible using traditional methods.

Digital Factory in Paris
In January 2019, we opened our first ever Digital Factory in Paris. Located next to Station F, the largest start-up campus in the world, the aim of the Factory is to accelerate digital transformation and ensure that we remain at the forefront of innovation. It brings together Givaudan’s experts, partners and customers from all over the world to explore new ways to drive our business forward. ‘Carto’ features in the Factory’s Computer Aided Creation programme.
As part of our 2020 digital innovation strategy, both ‘Carto’ and the Digital Factory are helping us to push the boundaries of fragrance creation.
