Givaudan donates CHF 50,000 to support disaster-affected communities in Madagascar
Donation to assist relief operations following severe destruction caused by Tropical Cyclone Gezani
Givaudan has announced a donation of CHF 50,000 to support communities in Madagascar impacted by Tropical Cyclone Gezani, which struck the country’s north-eastern coast near Toamasina (Tamatave) on 10 February 2026. The tropical cyclone, with winds reaching up to 280 km per hour, caused widespread damage to homes, infrastructure and essential services.
The donation, made through the Givaudan Humanitarian Fund, will be channelled through Action Against Hunger to strengthen local relief operations and provide integrated assistance to affected communities, including access to safe water, temporary housing and food assistance, as well as early recovery support in severely impacted areas in and around Toamasina.
“We are deeply saddened by the devastating impact of Cyclone Gezani on the people of Madagascar, especially in the Toamasina region where we have strong local ties. Through the Givaudan Humanitarian Fund and our partnership with Action Against Hunger, we want to help provide urgent relief to affected families and communities as they begin the long process of rebuilding their lives.”
Simon Halle‑Smith, Head of Global Human Resources and EHS at Givaudan
According to preliminary reports from the Government of Madagascar and the United Nations, more than 470,000 people have been affected, with 761 schools and 30 health facilities affected. Reportedly more than 20,000 people have been displaced and nearly 100,000 homes damaged or destroyed.
This latest contribution continues Givaudan’s commitment to respond swiftly to humanitarian crises through the Givaudan Humanitarian Fund, launched in December 2024. The Fund has so far supported emergency operations in several countries, providing a total of CHF 550,000 to disaster-affected communities.
