Rose Absolute Türkiye
With a rich history spanning centuries, Turkish Rose Absolute captures all the complexity and intensity of the flower’s soul. The absolute, a rich and warm floral rose note with fruity and honey facets, reveals an overdose of one of the most sought-after rose molecules: phenyl ethyl alcohol and its petal delicacy.
In perfumery, rose absolute is a key ingredient in the chypre accord. The essential oil and the absolute are often used together in a composition, with the absolute in the heart and the essential in the head.
In Türkiye, Rosa damascena is grown mainly in the province of Isparta, which produces around 65% of the world’s rose oil for the perfume market. Isparta’s favourable climatic conditions, including altitude, temperature, rainfall, humidity and sunlight, create an ideal environment for growing Rosa damascena.
Harvesting of Rosa damascena typically takes place in the early mornings of May and June, when the flowers are still fresh, providing much needed moisture and the aroma is at its peak. The flowers are carefully hand-picked using the ‘pinching’ technique to select only the finest flowers. This delicate method involves gently pulling the petal from the base of the flower. The petals are then immediately taken to the distillery. Any damage to the petals, particularly oxidation, can significantly affect the quality of the extract and reduce its olfactory value.
The flowers are first extracted to produce the concrete, then we transform the concrete into absolute through solvent extraction. One kg of absolute is made from 800 kg of flowers, or 250,000 roses.
The rose, or gül in Turkish, has been an integral part of Ottoman traditions for many centuries. It is even an integral part of the country’s culinary culture, for example in the famous loukoum, or Turkish Delight, a sweet jelly cube made from starch, sugar and rose.
