Abies sibirica needs a cold continental climate to thrive as a landscape tree. It can grow to a height of 60 metres and is the most widespread species in Russia. It can withstand temperatures as low as -50°C and grows in moist soils at altitudes of around 2,000 metres. It is the northernmost growing fir in the world, but sometimes starts growing very early and is damaged by late spring frosts.

The luxuriant branches are harvested and distilled from late winter to August, when they contain the highest concentration of essential oil and the forest is accessible (climate conditions). The plants indigenous to the area are harvested in the wild, away from chemical fertilisers and pesticides.

The pine needles are collected from timber that has been felled for other uses. The needles are dried before being distilled. The raw material is processed into essential oil by steam distillation.
