Peppermint Oil India
Fresh and invigorating, peppermint is the ingredient of choice in many musky or oriental colognes. Its mentholated facet creates an intense freshness effect specific to this essential oil.
Peppermint is a perennial herbaceous plant that spreads like an aromatic carpet of leaves. Its crenellated leaves are covered with small secretory hairs containing the fragrant principles. When crumpled, they give off a strong minty scent. At the top of the erect stems, which are often streaked with dark purple, are small, parma-pink flowers grouped in clusters.
Peppermint is a hybrid created by crossing water mint or Mentha aquatica with crisp mint or Mentha spicata. Mints have a great capacity for hybridisation. It is enough to plant two different mint plants next to each other to see a new intermediate form appear. It is sterile and reproduces by spreading through underground stems. The aerial parts are cut during the flowering period, between May and August. The raw material is processed into essential oil by steam distillation.
Peppermint is a member of the genus Mentha, which also includes mild mints containing carvone (spearmint), linalool mints with a subtle citrus scent (bergamot mint), and strong menthol mints such as peppermint and Mentha arvensis.
