Lime Distilled Oil Mexico

CITRUS | Zesty, Fresh
Limes hanging on a tree

Lime essential oil is a vibrant, fresh citrus note, very distinctive with its sweet, acidulous candy notes.

The citral, fresh facet of lime allows it to slip into many accords. Firstly, it blends perfectly with other hesperides. It brings freshness and softness to floral and/or spicy accords. It is also traditionally used in a coca accord with ginger and cinnamon.

Lime oil comes from the fruit of the Citrus aurantifolia tree. It is also known as Mexican lime and West Indian lime. It originated in Asia but is now grown in many countries around the world, including South Florida, India, Mexico, Egypt and the West Indies. Although India is the largest producer of lime fruit, Mexico is the first producer of lime essential oil.

Citrus aurantifolia is a small evergreen tree of about 5 metres. It produces flowers and fruit all year round, the flowers being yellowish-white with a purple edge. The fruit is yellow when fully ripe, although it is usually harvested when still green. The exterior of the fruit is thin with numerous glands containing essential oil.

The main fruit harvest takes place in Mexico from March to November. Lime Distilled Oil is produced via steam distillation of crushed fruits.
