Why indulgence and healthy eating are no longer a contradiction
Sweet goods is one of Givaudan’s broadest and most diverse categories. Health and wellness has been a significant focus of our activity in this segment in recent times. Today, however, we’re working towards ‘total concept solutions’ in Sweet Goods, factoring in consumer desires to deliver products that are both healthy and deeply satisfying.
How snacks are taking on a dynamic new twist
When we think of having a snack there’s often the dilemma of ‘healthy’ or ‘indulgent’. Traditionally, that could mean a piece of fruit, or a bag of crisps. But now the snack market is opening up, with local influences driving diversity, and increasingly healthier options available that mean snacks can now be healthy, indulgent and authentic at the same time.
Dairy to be different
Dairy is a traditional category, largely dictated by local consumer preferences. That plays to our strengths as a worldwide company, embedded in national cultures. The segment is opening up however, and Givaudan is bringing global knowledge and technology to bear in innovative ways, giving consumers diverse taste experiences designed to resonate at a local level.
Raise a glass to a world thirsting for new beverage experiences
Whether it’s a relaxing cup of tea, an invigorating wake-me-up coffee, or a refreshing citrus drink, there’s a good chance that Givaudan is behind the flavour you savour in your favourite beverages. As our biggest segment, accounting for one third of annual sales in Flavours, this huge market is now more fluid than ever.
Recreating the richness of home cooking
The invention of the TV dinner in 1953 was a revelation in convenient readymade meals. 60 years on, however, the taste gap between convenience meals and home cooking is still palpable. Now consumers can expect the unexpected, thanks to Givaudan’s TasteSolutions® Richness, which delivers a breakthrough in recreating the authentic flavours of homemade foods.
Now you can have your cake and eat it
Most people think that great-tasting food is all about the flavour. So it’s surprising to learn that what’s termed ‘mouthfeel’ is every bit as important in truly savouring a sumptuous dish as how it tastes. TasteSolutions® Mouthfeel helps to provide that rich taste sensation on the tongue, while addressing health and wellness issues related to reducing fat and calorie levels in food.

Umami, the ‘fifth taste’ on everybody’s lips
The man who discovered monosodium glutamate (MSG), chemist Kikunae Ikeda, coined its distinctive flavour as ‘Umami’, a colloquial Japanese word meaning ‘delicious taste’. First used by Japanese housewives in 1909 as a substitute for meat stock, MSG produces a succulence and depth of flavour in cooking. Today, Givaudan is able to replicate this succulence without using MSG.
